Eighteen Acres by Nicolle Wallace
(2010, Atria Books, 322 pages)
This is a political ChickLit set in Washington, where both the president and the chief of staff are women. It offers three main story lines, that of the president, chief of staff and a reporter, who is having an affair with the president’s husband.
Eighteen Acres offers a credible take on the challenges, benefits and day-to-day norms of the White House. It’s credible because of its author, Nicolle Wallace. She has held high profile positions in President George W. Bush’s office and was a senior advisor for the McCain-Palin campaign. There are digs every now and then that could just be fiction, but made me wonder if this was Wallace’s retribution.
I don’t want to say too much and ruin the plot. But whether you’re a Republican or Democrate, if you like ChickLit, you’ll enjoy Eighteen Acres.
