Tara Road by Maeve Binchy
(1999, Orion Publishing Group)
I picked this book up at a discount book store just after Christmas knowing it was an old Maeve Binchy book. What I didn’t know until I sat down to write this review that it was chosen for Oprah’s Book Club and adapted into a screenplay.
Tara Road is bordering on must read. Indeed, I might update it to that if I a second reading proves it worthy to five stars.
The story is set mainly in Ireland, but also in the United States. It’s the story of the strength women have and can build. But it’s also a story of their pettiness, stupidity and meanness.
I won’t say much more as I don’t want to spoil it. But it’s a definite page turner. And really, Oprah gave her gold stamp, so I won’t argue with the Queen of Daytime.
