Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella
(2009, The Dial Press an imprint of Random House)
This was a great departure from the Shopaholic series for Sophie Kinsella. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Kinsella’s first book, Confessions of a Shopaholic, but the later books in the series, became more and more stale. In this book, the protagonist Lara, meets an unexpected guest, her recently dead Aunt Sadie, who has come back as a young woman ghost and pesters Lara to help her rest in peace.
It’s a caper -- and that’s probably not quite what you were expecting. I wasn’t and to be honest, I wasn’t sure if I liked Twenties Girl until I finished it.
If you are looking for a typical fulfilling chick lit, then I’m not sure this is for you. I’d suggest Cocktails for Three by Madeleine Wickham, Kinsella’s real name. It’s really good.
