True Grit
Starring Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Hailee Steinfeld, Josh Brolin (2010, Paramount Pictures, Joel Coen and Charles Portis – Writers, Joel and Ethan Coen – Directors)
I wouldn’t have seen this movie unless my boyfriend dragged me. And he didn’t really have to drag me because Matt Damon always seems to be in a movie that’s worth seeing. So, I secretly was open to seeing it. As always, Damon delivered.
A young girl’s father is murdered and she hires Jeff Bridge’s character to help track down the killer. Matt Damon’s character is on a similar mission, albeit for a different reason.
I didn’t see the original, and I don’t plan to, but this is a neat little film where dialogue drives the movie. Bridges and Damon bring their characters to life with their Western twang, timing and delivery. Hailee Steinfeld is a star in the making. My boyfriend thought a 14-year-old wouldn’t be able to accomplish what Steinfeld’s character did in the film. I disagree, as 14-year-old young woman can be quite remarkable.
There is no stopping Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon from playing quality characters, it seems. And Hailee Steinfeld played a character for the ages.
