The Day I Shot Cupid

** The Day I Shot Cupid by Jennifer Love Hewitt (2010, Hyperion, 196 pages)

In case you're wondering, yes, this book is written by the celebrity actress Jennifer Love Hewitt. Yeah, the one from Party of Five and Ghost Whisperer.

So, why is she writing a book for the lovelorn? Afterall, don't Hollywood star's have a lot better luck in love than us regular folks? Nope. And that's part of Love Hewitt's point.

Being an incurable romantic is ok, but it doesn't mean a relationship of walking on clouds and getting roses every day and living happily ever after is going to happen...to those who seem to have it all, or even you.

I received this book from a dear and thoughtful friend.  It was meant to help me learn to be happy without always looking, as Love Hewitt has, for love or a relationship that's bluer than bluest sky.

And it was, without a doubt, a decent book. That being said, I'm not sure I would
recommend anyone buy it. It's expensive at US$24.00. And while Love Hewitt, is good at her on-screen career, she isn't a writer.

That being said, if you can get a copy on sale, from the library or from a friend, it's worth reading.

The actress offers a good jolt of be who you are, not who everyone wants you to be; real women aren't size O; and love yourself first.  Really, it's a good kick-in-the-pants to get on with being you. Romance is great. It is. But no one else can make you happy.

Love Hewitt tries to offer more pratical advice than He's Just Not That Into You, and she does. But their just wasn't enough content in there too warrant the cover price.

I read this book in three unconsecutive days. I wanted to let the content and advice sink in before continuing on. Plus, it was such an easy, thin read, I didn't want to rush it.

If you are looking for a kick-in-the-pants feel good book, this might be for you.
